Story Behind the Game
Introduction:
Hi, my name is Lee. I am a Christian dad who was in search of a fun trading card game that I felt was best for my family. I was unable to find a game that my children liked and was something I felt honored God. Therefore, I created Word & Iron. Word & Iron is a strategy and trading card game that is for ages as young as 5, but definitely can be enjoyed by any age. There are two methods of play that you the parent can decide which is age appropriate for your children. One method is called the Grand Tournament. In the Grand Tournament no battles take place. The Grand Tournament is a medieval tournament where soldier cards compete and are aided by champion cards. The other method of play is called a Pitched Battle. A Pitched Battle is a battle between the two royal armies battle it out until one side achieves victory. In the Pitched Battle each player chooses to be a king or a queen. The king or queen must manage resources, battle their opponent, and deal with unknow and uncontrollable events. Each player may also be blessed by the Word of God throughout the game, and I hope in real life. I can understand being uncomfortable with a game that has two sides in a battle. If you are a Christian remember that in the end times, we will battle Satan’s forces and in fact are in a daily battle with Satan already. Please see Ephesians 6:10-17, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Luke 22:35-38, and many more scriptures which I am sure you can find. After reading these, this game might just be good practice 😊. When I decided to make this game in this way I kept remembering what Colton Burpo said in Heaven is For Real (Todd Burpo, Lynn Vincent 2010) about his father fighting Satan’s army with a sword, or a bow and arrow.
* Side note, when purchasing your 72-card starter deck just know that technically a Grand Tournament can be played in a limited way with only one 72-card starter deck shared between two players. To get the full experience two separate 72-card starter decks are recommended. To play a Pitched Battle two separate 72-card starter decks are required.
Thank you and God bless!
